2024 Sheep Sales Forecast

Hello buyers of sheep!

Lambing is slated to start Feb 15th and go through Mar 31st roughly. We will be weaning lambs on May 30th and a week later they can move on to new homes!

This year we bred 14 Registered St Croix ewes between 2 of our Registered St Croix rams, Titus and Leroy. This means we could have between 14-28 purebred St Croix lambs born with all ram lambs and many ewe lambs available for sale. Don’t forget we will likely have several colored St Croix born this year!

We bred one crossbred ewe lamb to Registered St Croix ram, Leroy, as well. Her lamb/s will be either un-papered commercial breeding stock or market lambs as the St Croix organization doesn’t have a crossbred registry as of yet. Perhaps someday!

We bred 2 Registered and 8 Recorded Katahdin ewes to Registered Katahdin ram, Archie. A couple of those Recorded ewes may be upgraded to Registered this spring if they shed clean. That would mean there is potential for 4-8 Registered Katahdin lambs and 6-12 commercial Recorded Katahdin lambs. Some ram lambs may be kept, but many more will be moved on and many ewe lambs will also be available as well.

We are very selective about who gets papers, however, so not all will fall in the Registered/Recorded offspring realm. Only the top 10% of ram lambs in each group will get papers, the rest will likely sold for meat lambs. This means at most there will be 2 Registered St Croix ram lambs, 1 Registered Katahdin ram lamb, and 1 Commercial Recorded Katahdin ram lamb available this year. Ewe lambs we are a little more lenient about. If there are glaring flaws, they obviously go to the meat lamb category, but if I have a hard time deciding between the better ones, I will likely go ahead and paper them if I can.

There are also several adult ewes that will be for sale after the end of June/early July (giving them a month or more to recover after raising lambs). Many Registered St Croix and Registered/Recorded Katahdin for sure, but more firm decisions will be made when the time gets here. These are great ewes, we just need to cut back or risk getting overrun! These can be purchased as bred ewes as well. We are breeding earlier this year from Aug 11th – Sept 24th for lambs due starting near Jan 4th, 2025. We ask for payment in full if you want them bred and will add on a $25 exposure fee to the price of each ewe. They can be picked up any time in late September/October.

If you are interested in meat lambs, commercial Recorded Katahdin adult ewes/lambs, Registered Katahdin adult ewes/lambs, or Registered St Croix adult ewes/lambs, please get on the list by emailing us!
